All the visual information from the movie was inspired by that. We probably went through that a thousand times. We thought it would be cool to do a blaxploitation 70s vibe because it’s this badass story about him beating up these bikers.įraser Munden: Quentin Tarantino had a publication house for a while and he has a book called What It Is…What It Was! It’s composed of blaxploitation posters from the 70s. The story is about Ralph, who was one of the first black teachers in the Montreal English School Board. Neil: Fraser and I are big fans of exploitation films and 70s B movies. The story takes place in the 70s, and judging from the number of 70s posters you bought for our old apartment, I can tell you are a big fan of that era. We could do that, but for some reason we were just doing it on our own. We were like cavemen in a cave inventing a wheel when there are people driving around in Porsches. We had absolutely no animation experience. I was spending entire days drawing and doing 20 frames, and with ten frames a second, it’s only two seconds. Neil: You saw when we were living together the amount of time that goes into that shit. There are a bunch of different animation styles for the film, but it’s mostly hand-drawn and hand-colored drawings. It’s something that we can both do and be consistent, and you wouldn’t necessarily be able to look at it and say, “This person drew this, this person drew that.” In video class we’d pass drawings back and forth and make each other laugh. Neil: It’s a hybrid of my drawing style and Fraser’s drawing style. He was just crying with laughter and I was like, Who is this fucking kid? I guess he thought this was funny, so we started sitting together in video class.īetween your previous film, Vaseline and Pepper, and The Chaperone, you guys have managed to develop and maintain a consistent and very distinct hand-drawn style. And I just went “uggh” and Fraser started dying with laughter. There were slow moving shots that came close to these wrinkled bodies moving in the water. ![]() We were watching a slow artistic video about old people doing water aerobics in a pool. ![]() Neil Rathbone: Fraser and I met in video class. It pains me to say this, but it's really not as horrible as you've been lead to believe.I met with Neil and his partner, Fraser Munden, to talk about the film, blaxploitation, their experience at TIFF, and David Arquette’s obsession with their puppets. I don't care for Triple H at all, but I give credit where credit is due when it is deserved. Winter got on my nerves a couple times with her snotty attitude, but considering the circumstances, it was understandable.įinal Thoughts: It's not something I'm going to watch again. Ariel Winter is as cute as a button and she and Triple H play off one another well as Father & Daughter. He gets lots of digs taken at him for this, but he wasn't too bad at all. Triple H proves he can be likable after all. It's well made for the most part, and the cast is rather solid as well. ![]() I can't believe I'm saying this, but it's really not that bad of a film. It has just enough action to do an adequate job for adults, and its innocuous storyline will be just perfect for kids. This is the type of family affair that most families will most likely groove to. The plot is nothing special and is something we've all seen quite a few times before done in different way. It's fairly genuine in its approach, and Triple H (Paul Levesque) is actually non pretentious and likable, something I can hardly say about him in the WWE. This wasn't exactly good, but it managed to be a hell of a lot better than I expected. He decides to shield himself by sneaking into his field trip to be The Chaperone. (Plot) A con filled with regrets is on the run to hide from his troubled past as a criminal. Reviewed by callanvass 5 / 10 Not a big Triple H fan, but this was actually not the atrocity that I expected . I originally streamed it off Netflix, curious - seeing that "Triple H" was in the title. And with more than 30 films to her credit, including a few television appearances, she certainly has earned icon status. Gish is even more gorgeous today, especially in this film, than during her 80's 'Mystic Pizza' days where she portrayed mostly straight-laced, virginal school girl roles. ![]() The on-screen chemistry he shares with costar, veteran actress Annabeth Gish, is the most surprising. He certainly can act no doubt about that. Levesque is actually well-fitted in this role, and very convincing for his first actual big screen debut. T (before he switched to pro boxing), The Hulkster, Andre the Giant, etc. Who says (former) wrestlers can't make the big screen? The Rock, Mr. Though I'm no wrestling fan, I am very familiar with the media presence of "Triple H" (Paul Levesque). Reviewed by oprlvr33 8 / 10 I was quite impressed
